Big Bambú opens today at the Met! Last Friday afternoon I got my first guided tour while phase one of installation was coming to a close. Having been experiencing this sculpture from below for 2 months, I have to say that climbing up and inside of it is like entering an alternate universe. There are all sorts of magical corners where the bamboo forms patterns as it twists into turns of the pathway and then opens up into views of NYC from a vantage point I have never experienced. The artists and their team have created a community up there - their own little world and home that will continue to evolve throughout this summer. I suggest you make sure to plan a time to climb it. After all, what is better than a sculpture, made by identical twins with the nicknames of Cheech and Chong, who named their artwork after the album, which in turn was named after the rolling papers..
